Greetings Flintridge Preparatory School Alumni!

March Madness is officially behind us, and the end of the academic year is approaching quickly.  The senior class is mulling college options, and making preparations for Prom, the Senior Trip, Commencement and other year end activities. 

Our new Library and Learning Center has become the heart of the campus and will be dedicated on May 17, and the gym is now closed for renovations.  As we wind down this school year, we look forward to welcoming the incoming 7th and 9th graders next fall.

Survey of alumni from the Classes of 1995-2007
Thank you to all of you who have completed the survey about your experiences with the school.  OMP Research Associates is getting ready to analyze the results and would like you to know that they have set a deadline of April 30 for submissions.  The more input we have, the more the school can learn.  If you have not yet filled out the survey, we encourage you to go to www.omp-research.com/Prep.html and fill out the survey using the security code PrepAlum.  Your cooperation and feedback is greatly appreciated.

Science Fair
The 2008 Flintridge Prep Science Fair on March 6 featured 69 exhibits by 74 students.  Participation is required of all 8th graders, and everyone else is encouraged to participate.  Read more ...

Seventeen Prep Seniors Named as SAT/National Merit Scholarship Finalists
Approximately one percent of the high school seniors nationally who take the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test achieve “finalist” status.  This year, from Prep’s senior class of 96 students, nearly 18% scored well enough to be recognized as “finalists.”  The standardized test taken during the junior year evaluates critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills developed over many years, both in and out of the classroom. 

Mr. Flintridge Prep
The Leo Club's 3rd annual Mr. Flintridge Prep Contest, held in Norris Auditorium on Friday, March 28, 2008, raised over $3,400.00 for individuals with Down Syndrome. Specifically, this year’s event benefited “Club 21,” a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with Down Syndrome and their parents.  Read more ...

Student Science Journal Publishes First Issue
Prep’s newest monthly publication, Current Science Journal, created by a 12-student staff, features contributions and editorials from eighth through twelfth graders.  The first edition covered human-primate disease transmission, artificial intelligence, solar energy, artificial DNA, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, greenhouse gases, and “Dark Energy: Expansion of the Universe.”   The paper also includes references to websites for further information and exploration.

Prep Summer School
Prep summer school starts on June 23.  The program offers academic and extra-curricular classes as well as sports and recreational camps.  Non-Prep students are welcome to attend summer school.  Course offerings and registration forms can be found online on Prep's Summer School webpage. For questions, please contact Scott Myers, Summer School director, by email or by phone at 818-790-1178.

Class of 2008 Commencement
The Graduation for the Class of 2008 will take place on Sunday, June 8, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

Currently, Prep's softball team, under head coach Ms. Julie Jaime and assistants Mr. Joe Maggio and Mr. Jo French, are in first place in the Prep League with a league record of 7-1. The boys volleyball team, with returning All-CIF and Prep League co-MVP Dylan Walker and other strong players, have been highly ranked all season long.

Flintridge Prep Annual Golf Tournament
Save Monday, April 28, 2008 for the annual Flintridge Prep Golf Tournament at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.  The event organized by the Fathers Club features a fun afternoon on the links with Prep alumni, current families, faculty and staff.  The proceeds from the tournament will benefit the John Plumb ’64 Endowment Fund for faculty growth and development.  We are pleased to announce that Rusnak Jaguar Pasadena is offering a hole-in-one prize of a 2009 Jaguar XF.  Read more ... 

75th Anniversary Celebration
As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of Flintridge Preparatory School this year, we invite you to pay tribute to your alma mater at the 75th Anniversary Celebration on May 17 and at our other alumni events.  We also hope you will enjoy the many anniversary-related articles, alumni profiles and history timelines which will be published in the school magazine PrepTalk and on our website.  We encourage you to explore Prep’s school history currently on our website under School Profile.

Class of 1958 Fiftieth Reunion
The Class of 1958 Reunion is scheduled for May 30 and 31, 2008.  The class will gather for a reunion dinner on May 30 at The Oakmont Country Club in Glendale and then attend the Prep Reunion Day activities on May 31 on campus.  For questions, contact reunion coordinator Jay Midgley ’58. Prep Reunion Day
Prep is hosting its next Reunion Day for members of the Classes of 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1993 on May 31, 2008.  Invitations will be arriving shortly in the mail.  If you do not receive an invitation, or would like to help by encouraging your classmates’ attendance, please email Jacqueline Epley or telephone 818-949-5526.

The 75th Anniversary Celebration committee is seeking photographs and memorabilia reflecting the school’s history to be displayed at the May 17, 2008 event.  Please send photographs as digital images to 75anniversary@flintridgeprep.org or mail print photographs to Madeline Barraclough, Development Assistant, Flintridge Preparatory School, 4543 Crown Avenue, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011.  Please write your name, address and approximate year of photo on the reverse side of any prints.  If you have any Flintridge Prep memorabilia you feel will make for interesting display items, please consult with Madeline at 818-790-7737 before mailing or delivering the item(s).  Thank you.  Every effort will be made to return your photos and memorabilia following the Anniversary Celebration.   Please submit the photographs and memorabilia by May 1, 2008.
