Graduation - Class of 2005

As the academic year comes to a close, Prep is busy preparing for the graduation of the 101 members of the Class of 2005 scheduled for June 12, 2005 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.  We are delighted to share that these seniors are continuing the proud tradition of leaving Prep to attend many of America's most prestigious and highly selective colleges and universities.  Please be sure to check out the summer issue of PrepTalk for the list of Class of 2005 college destinations.

Summer School at Prep

Prep's Summer School for middle school and high school students begins on June 27.  For a list of the course offerings and to request a brochure, visit our webpage at Summer School. Non-Prep students are welcome to enroll in summer school.  For additional information, contact Scott Myers, Summer School Director, at smyers@fprep.org or  818-790-1178.

New Administrative Assignments

Committed to strategic planning for the future, Headmaster Peter Bachmann recently announced new administrative and department assignments for the coming year. Peter Vaughn, current dean of faculty, will immediately assume the position of Assistant Headmaster and be responsible for all student academic and behavioral affairs, as well as overseeing faculty and curriculum issues.

Regrettably, long-time dean of students and calculus teacher Annabelle Treacy retires this Spring after dedicating over twenty years of service to the Prep community. Midge Kimble will assume Dr. Treacy's dean of students responsibilities for all grades 7 through 12. Kathleen Herroon, another longtime Prep teacher and administrator, becomes Director of Operations.

After years as department chairmen, Vatche Hagopian and John Ruch pass their leadership to John Romano in the math department and Christine Madsen in the history department. Mr. Hagopian and Mr. Ruch look forward to having more time to teach and to serve students in a variety of extracurricular activities. Ms. Madsen is a two year member of Prep's faculty and former chair of Oakwood School's history department. Mr. Romano is currently the math chair at Peddie School in New Jersey. Previously, he was a longtime faculty member at Harvard-Westlake School here in Los Angeles.

Laura Berger, who taught science at Prep from 2001 to 2003 before leaving to complete her master's degree from U.C. Davis, returns this year to the science department and will also serve as seventh grade dean.

Lastly, Marty Konrad finishes four years as physical education department chair and head football coach at Prep, highlighted by Prep's C.I.F. divisional football championship in 2003. Coach Konrad will pursue a new challenge as defensive coordinator at the recently constructed West Ranch H.S., in the Santa Clarita valley. Alex Rivera, along with his duties as Athletic Director, will serve as interim chair of the physical education department. Brad Miller joins Prep's foreign language faculty teaching Latin and will become head football coach. Mr. Miller comes to Prep from Pasadena Poly where he taught Latin and served as co-head football coach last season.

I hope to see and meet you at one of the upcoming activities!   In the meantime, stay tuned in via Prep's new website http://www.flintridgeprep.org/home/default.aspx.  The website is updated frequently so check back often.
