Finding the optimal match between student and institution is the ultimate goal of the college counseling program at Flintridge Prep. Our philosophy empowers students to assess their personal strengths and values and to use that self-knowledge to identify the colleges and universities that will offer the best opportunities for continued personal and intellectual growth.
While our college guidance program requires personal involvement and responsibility on the students' part, it is also intensely supportive, providing students and parents with honest assessments and a wide array of choices. The policies and procedures of college guidance at Flintridge Prep are designed to mitigate the anxiety that accompanies college selection and to facilitate communication among the participants to insure a positive transition from high school to college for each student. We encourage students and parents to make the most of the high school experience, and to maintain a healthy balance between preparing for the future and fully appreciating the present.
A program that begins in the sophomore year provides students and parents with the information they need regarding college admissions and standardized testing. As juniors, students begin the college search and application process, while culminates with college selection in the senior year. Our juniors and seniors meet individually with members of the college counseling staff and take weekly classes that address the issues and requirements of applying to college. Flintridge Prep's college counselors provide additional support by guiding each student in selecting appropriate classes and meaningful co-curricular activities. The open-door policy of our counseling staff invites students to take full advantage of the extensive resources available to them.
