Flintridge Prep School is a network of intimate connections. Here, strong bonds are forged—between student and student, student and teacher, books and dreams. In this cooperative and caring environment, we nurture critical thinking and intellectual curiosity to prepare each student to embrace lifelong learning.
Students past and present consistently point to the faculty as the school's signature strength. Our small class sizes encourage dynamic conversation and personal attention from teachers who also serve as coaches and extracurricular advisors. Alumni routinely return to thank their teachers for instilling academic rigor, intellectual passion, and personal kindness.
We provide an ordered environment that allows young people to become free through growth and learning. Every academic success or challenge, every touchdown, every sculpture, every rehearsal is a lesson in personal struggle and triumph. Yet, with the support of faculty and peers, no one need struggle alone or triumph without fanfare.
Flintridge Prep bears a philosophical resemblance to the island of Shakespeare's The Tempest, and our teachers are not unlike the play's hero, Prospero, who provides the characters on the island with an opportunity to realize their potential for learning. Just as the characters reach the end of the play ready to leave Prospero's island and enter the larger world with the lessons of the island now a part of them, our graduates take Flintridge Prep with them.
We seek to prepare our students well for what Joseph Campbell has called the “hero's journey” — that universal life saga in which we leave the comforts of home to perform great deeds, ask serious questions, glory in great accomplishments, suffer defeats, and gather the strength and courage to rise and begin again.
