Endowment Funds
Andani Teaching Chair
Established in 2006, the Andani Teaching Chair is awarded for a two year term to a faculty member to celebrate distinguished teaching and campus-wide contributions. The 2012 recipient is John Romano, chair of the Math Department.
Bachmann Fund
The S. Albert and Peter H. Bachmann families established a faculty summer study endowment in 1994. Peterr Bachmann joined the faculty in 1980 and has served as headmaster since 1991.
Banning Faculty Fund
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R. Onderdonk, parents of John S. Onderdonk '94, created this fund to support faculty professional growth. The fund was established in 1994 in honor of Robert J. Banning, Jr. '81, former computer science teacher and soccer coach at Prep.
Baribault Faculty Fund
Susan and William Baribault, parents of Paul A. Baribault '92 and Maryann K. Baribault Ziera '96, established this faculty development fund in 1994 to honor the dedicated teachers at Prep.
J.P. Blecksmith '99 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Blecksmith family established this endowment fund in 2004 to honor the memory of 2nd Lieutenant James Patrick Blecksmith '99, who died while serving in Iraq. The J.P. Blecksmith Memorial Scholarship Fund offsets tuition for deserving students, funds special leadership opportunities for selected students of promise, and through the J.P. Blecksmith Annual Award honors a rising senior who personifies the qualities of leadership, scholarship, athletic commitment, and public service that J.P. embodied.
Brisbois Family Endowment Fund
Brenda and Roy Brisbois, parents of Matthew R. Brisbois '95, Andrew M. Brisbois '98, and Kristin E. Brisbois '11, inaugurated this fund in 1994 for the benefit of students and faculty. The Brisbois Fund is directed toward the improvement of communication skills and faculty enrichment programs in the field of public speaking and debate.
Cannell Family Teaching Chair
This endowed teaching chair was created in 2002 through the generosity of the Cannell family, whose Prep graduates are Stephen J. Cannell '60, Tawnia Cannell McKiernan '87, and Cody A. Cannell '02. The most recent chair holder is history teacher Michael Mullins who held it from 2002 to 2012.
Carroll Family Athletic Endowment Fund
Lettice and Jeff Carroll, parents of Wesley Carroll '99, Julie Carroll '01, and Blake Carroll '01, established this endowment fund in 1996 to support Prep's athletic program.
Class of 1992 Fine Arts Fund
Special talent and interest in the fine arts curriculum led this class to begin an endowment fund for the benefit of Prep's fine arts program.
Class of 1994 Endowment Fund
The Class of 1994 created an endowed fund that is to be divided each year, half going on a rotating basis to each of the school's academic departments and half to campus landscaping.
Christopher Cobb Memorial Fund
Doreen Cobb and her family established this fund in 1992 as a memorial to Christopher Cobb, father of Rob Cobb '96, to provide scholarship assistance for worthy students.
Detoy Prize for Teaching Excellence
Charles J. Detoy '42 and wife Virginia, parents of Richard Y. Detoy '72 and William C. Detoy '74 and grandparents of Michael Detoy '04, established this endowment in 1994 in memory of Charles and Henrietta Detoy to provide funds for the recognition of teaching excellence. This year's prize holder is Director of Technology Sylvie Andrews.
Annette M. and Paul K. Doyle Distinguished Speakers Fund
The William K. Doyle family established this fund in 1995 to honor the grandparents of Kenneth White '87, Joanne Doyle Pauley '91, and William K. Doyle, Jr. '98. The endowment enables distinguished persons to appear on campus for the purpose of addressing students on topical issues.
Frances B. Estes Scholarship Fund
In 1995, the administration and the Board of Trustees established this endowment fund to provide tuition assistance for deserving students. This fund honors longtime Director of Admissions Fran Estes, who passed away in July 2008.
Fasken Endowment Fund
Joseph Fasken taught history at Prep from 1942 to 1968. His love for the subject and the students left deep impressions. Inaugurated in 1950 by Mr. Fasken and the Class of 1949, this fund provides scholarships for deserving students.
Edward E. Ford Faculty Endowment Fund
Designated for faculty summer study, this endowment was funded by a 1994 challenge grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation and the substantial response of Prep community members.
Thomas Fry Endowment Fund
To support the school perpetually in Tom Fry's honor, this fund was established in 2010. Each year, a designated portion of the fund's income will be directed to enhance the weight room. A $500 prize from the fund will be presented to a senior at each graduation. The senior will embody Tom's "enthusiasm for athletics, generosity of spirit and love of life."
General Endowment Fund
The General Endowment Fund was initiated to provide ongoing funds for the continuing betterment of the school.
Gibbs International Education Opportunities Fund
Priscilla and Nelson F. Gibbs, Nelson E. Gibbs '83, Jennifer Gibbs Bauer '86, and Claire E. Gibbs '87 established this fund in 1994 to support international education opportunities for Prep students.
Doug ’40 and Bill ’69 Goodan Endowment Fund
Mrs. Eunice Goodan established this fund in 2012 in honor of her late husband and their son. Income is to be used at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
Kumar Family Fund
Dr. Nirmal Kumar was his wife, Sneh, parents of Sameer Kumar '00, established this fund in 1994 for science in honor of Dr. Kumar's parents.
Library and Learning Center Fund
This fund supports the ongoing maintenance and acquisition of library books, equipment, technology, and materials.
Ouyang Scholarship Endowment Fund
The Ouyang family established this fund in 2002 to support financial aid.
Parents Association Teaching Chair
This endowed teaching chair was created in 2001 through the diligent fundraising efforts of the Mothers and Fathers Clubs. It recognizes a distinguished teacher who uniquely enriches the lives of students. The current two year chair holder is science and dance teacher Hilary Thomas.
John Plumb '64 Endowment Fund
The Alumni Association established this fund in 1990 as a tribute to John Plumb '64, who served as a teacher, coach, and administrator from 1968 to 1990. These endowed funds are directed to faculty enrichment and include proceeds from the annual golf tournament.
Randall Fund for Faculty Growth
Eleanor and James Randall, parents of Starlite Randall '95, Matthew Beckley '97, Benjamin Randall '07, and Jordan Randall '08, established this fund in 1994 to offer enrichment opportunities to Prep faculty.
Rose Endowment Fund
Joseph Rose taught at Prep from 1936 to 1970, providing instruction in French, Spanish, and English. This endowed fund, established in 1976, provides scholarships as a tribute to Mr. Rose, who also served two terms as headmaster.
Smith Endowment Fund
Founded in 1980 as an endowment for special projects, this fund honors Leroy Smith, former interim headmaster and Prep English teacher from 1943 to 1967.
Stein Family Endowment Fund for Human Development
The Eugene Stein family established an endowment for Human Development in 1995.
Elizabeth Allen Stuart Memorial Fund
Joyce and Barry Swayne, parents of Steven Swayne '88 and David Swayne '90, established this scholarship fund in 1996 in honor of Elizabeth Allen Stuart to provide support for the Club for Christ..
Student Investment Fund
The Student Investment Fund was established in 1997 with gifts from Paula and Jeff Miller, Jeri and Tom Mitchell, and Karen and Larry Tashjian. In their senior year, students may take a class in which they spend a year learning portfolio management, investment strategies, salesmanship, and teamwork.
Trustee Teaching Chair
Prep's Board of Trustees established the Trustee Teaching Chair in 1997 to recognize a career teacher, one who devotes him- or herself full time to the classroom. The current chair holder is science and dance teacher Hilary Thomas.
Doris Walton Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in 2006 to honor Doris Walton, whose administrative career at Prep spanned five decades and touched the lives of thousands of students, hundreds of faculty members, and every headmaster of the school. Monies from the Doris Walton Endowed Scholarship Fund support the school's financial aid program.
Matthew Wells '88 Memorial Fund
Matthew Wells '88 served as Commissioner General during his senior year at Prep and was highly regarded by everyone who knew him. The school community was saddened by his untimely death in 2002; gifts in his memory were used to begin this fund which supports student government.
Special Funds
Winchester “Sam” Cooley ’84 Memorial Fund
Established as a memorial to Sam Cooley, a Prep student from 1977 to 1984.
Grinnell Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1986 in memory of Dan Grinnell ’87. Funds are directed to the performing arts program.
Neupauer Memorial Fund
John Neupauer taught biology and Latin from 1956 to 1982. His depth of selfless dedication to Prep’s students is memorialized through this fund, established in 1983, in support of science.
Wood Memorial Fund
This fund was established in 1984 in memory of Coach Jim Wood, who was the backbone of Prep’s athletic department for three decades (1945 to 1978).
