Flintridge Prep’s upper school athletic programs are governed by the Southern Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. With over 550 member schools, the C.I.F.- Southern Section (“C.I.F.-SS”) is the largest of 10 administrative sections organized throughout the state of California.  The ten sections are 1. Northern, 2. North Coast, 3. Sac-Joaquin, 4. San Francisco, 5. Oakland, 6. Central Coast, 7. Central, 8. Los Angeles, 9. Southern, and 10. San Diego. The C.I.F. is one of 50 state associations belonging to the National Federation of State High School Associations.  The C.I.F.’s primary function is to regulate high school athletic programs and to establish and enforce rules relating to the involvement of student-athletes in athletics.  More information about the C.I.F.-SS can be obtained from its website – www.cifss.org.

The Prep League

Flintridge Prep is one of the founding members of the Prep League, formerly known as the Preparatory League, which has existed since the 1930s.  Current Prep League members include Flintridge Prep, Chadwick, Pasadena Polytechnic, Rio Hondo Prep and Webb for boys athletics, and Flintridge Prep, Chadwick, Pasadena Polytechnic, Rio Hondo Prep, Vivian Webb, Westridge School, and Mayfield Sr. H.S. for girls athletics.

For the 2008-2009 school year the Prep League officers are Alex Rivera, A.D. Flintridge Prep, as league president and C.I.F. council representative, and Melaine Horn, A.D. Westridge, as league secretary and league coordinator.

For middle school athletics, Flintridge Prep is a member of the Independent Middle School League, often referred to as the Prep League, which includes Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Polytechnic, Rio Hondo, Clairbourn School, Mayfield Jr. H.S., Chandler School, High Point Academy, Westridge M.S., and the Waldorf School. 

C.I.F. Playoffs

Playoff divisions are modified by the C.I.F. intermittently. For the 2008-2009 school year, Flintridge Prep will compete in the following CIF-SS playoff divisions.
