Amnesty International Club explores issues concerning human rights and social justice throughout the world. We write letters and send petitions to world leaders and raise funds through bake sales and coffeehouses to support the Nazoo Anna Education Center for Afghan refugee girls in Peshwar, Pakistan. Members exchange letters with Nazoo Anna students during the school year.

Art Reach is a diverse student club whose goal is to share and combine common interests in arts, crafts, and design with a highly motivated community service mission. Members meet weekly to arrange visits to local artistic attractions, organize numerous crafts and bake sales, and supervise an annual fashion show, all of which raise hundreds of dollars for charity organizations.

The Book Group meets in the early evening to discuss a mutually agreed-upon book. We choose books that involve topics that are issues for teenagers. The group is open to anyone in the school.

The Collective is one of the largest clubs on campus with its mission to explore local, national and international issues of the day. The Collective meets in the liberal tradition of examination and challenge to conventional thinking and status quo logic. The guiding principle of the Collective is the pursuit of a just and fair society free of prejudices, bigotry, racism and discrimination. The agenda of the Collective it is one reflecting a commitment to equality, respect, mutual acceptance, and the open exchange of ideas consistent with the principles of the Flintridge Prep Honor Code.

The Fencing Club is a relatively new organization whose ultimate goal is to establish a competitive fencing program at Flintridge Prep. In the meantime, we continue to study fencing off campus and to share our interest and enthusiasm for fencing on campus. Our club is open to anyone interested in fencing. En garde!

The Flintridge Press reports on campus news, student life, and student achievements in sports and the arts. Members contribute as writers, photographers, and editors.

The Folio is Flintridge Prep’s literary and arts magazine. Its purpose is to showcase the best student-produced creative writing and visual art of the academic year. The Folio Club’s purpose is to put this publication together. During the year we work to gather material from students, to produce work ourselves, to select submissions, to edit manuscripts, and to design the layout of the final product. This is the perfect club for the aspiring writer or graphic artist, as well as others wanting to explore their creativity.

The objective of the Foreign Film Social Club is to sample LA’s extensive art scene. Activities include attending art openings, dances, and movies. Once a month we have an evening dinner meeting to watch a foreign-language film.

French Club loves to celebrate French culture and food. Members participate in activities such as Mardi Gras, crêpe parties, and la Fête des Rois. French Club is open to any Prep student, regardless of the language he/she studies at school. French movies and games (Scrabble in French!) are often on the agenda. The club brings Paris to the classroom for rewarding and good times. (See also National French Honor Society.)

Futbol Club is comprised of soccer players (male and female) and others with an interest in soccer. We gather weekly to view major US and European games, and organize outings to LA Galaxy games. We are planning a trip to Germany for World Cup 2006.

This club welcomes students from all grade levels, middle and upper school, who are interested in urban dance of all genres—hip hop, funk, and street styles of breaking and locking. Meeting once a week in the dance studio, members of all experience levels share their love of contemporary urban dance and music.

Students who enjoy the exciting sport of ice hockey founded the Hockey Club. The organization is for fans, male and female; it is not a sports team. We go to local professional hockey games as a group and have other fun social activities during the year. We also meet weekly to discuss our favorite teams and other important events.

The Beginning Jazz Band is geared toward 9 th graders and other upper school students with little or no jazz experience. Members learn the fundamentals of jazz style and improvisation through the rehearsal of appropriate jazz works. The band performs at least twice during the school year.

The Advanced Jazz Ensemble consists primarily of 10th, 11th, and 12th graders with at least one year of jazz experience. Through the study and rehearsal of the great modern-jazz repertoire, students experience a variety of jazz styles with an emphasis on advanced improvisation techniques. The advanced jazz band performs in several concerts on and off campus throughout the school year.

The Flintridge Prep Key Club is dedicated to community service and student leadership. The club’s primary focus is helping those who are less fortunate. Activities include serving Thanksgiving dinners at a local church, holding a walk-a-thon to raise money for various charities, conducting food drives for the poor, and organizing contributions of food and other donations for the families of blind children. We are supported by the La Cañada Kiwanis, our parent organization. Key Club also meets with clubs from other schools and participates in joint activities, such as the Kiwanis Soap Box Derby.

Knitting Club meets once a week during first lunch, and occasionally after school on Fridays. The club got its start with members teaching each other how to knit and working on projects such as knitted scarves and hats. Plans include knitting items for babies in third-world countries.

The Latin Club is comprised of current and former Latin students who meet once a week to promote the study of the Latin language in particular and subjects related to the field of classical culture and civilization in general. We are the on-campus representatives of the Junior Classical League, the nationwide organization comprised of high school and junior high school students of Latin and Greek. In addition to academic pursuits, we engage in a number of fun activities, e.g. an outing to see the movie Troy and our annual Latin convention. We also try to be socially active in the community through service. We are active participants in the Crop Walk. In December we collect toys for needy children and hold a canned food drive in the spring to benefit the Friends In Deed House. Although it is not our official motto, we try to live out the Latin expression Facta non verba (roughly translated, “Deeds, not words”).

Leo Club is the high school branch of Lions Club International. Service projects include the collection of eyeglasses for the needy, an annual blood drive, and gift boxes for Samaritan’s Purse at holiday time. Money raised from bake sales and the annual Bling-Bling Dance supports the Elizabeth House, a Pasadena agency serving abused and unwed mothers, and numerous other community organizations. Members provide gifts, cook, clean, and entertain at the annual Elizabeth House Christmas party.

The LOG staff creates the school yearbook between September and March. Activities include photography, copy writing, layout design, and art. The LOG is produced entirely with PageMaker and PhotoShop, which means that anyone with computer experience is always welcome. We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and sometimes on weekends when a deadline is near.

The Multicultural Student Union is a forum for exploring and learning to appreciate the differences as well as the similarities among races and cultures. The organization fosters a mutually respectful environment where students can discuss sensitive issues without fear of criticism. We meet weekly on Tuesday afternoons.

The National French Honor Society is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Flintridge Prep has been a chapter of this organization since 1985. To qualify, students must maintain at least an A-minus average while taking French for three consecutive semesters. Members participate in activities such as dinners, National French Week, and French festivals such as Mardi Gras. The Honor Society also attends plays in French for an enriching cultural experience. Members provide a tutoring service for French 1 students. (See also French Club.)

The Pep Band is a supercharged high-energy ensemble that performs for home basketball games as well as the homecoming football game. The band’s music ranges from rock and roll to rhythm and blues to jazz, with a “jam-based” format. Pep Band members need not be members of Flintridge Prep’s music program.

Photo Club activities coincide with those of the Foreign Film Social Club, with more emphasis on photography. We hold photo exhibitions around campus. Members need not be currently enrolled in a photography class.

Prep Masala members participate in activities such as learning simple Hindi dialogue, listening to Indian music, and (everyone’s favorite) cooking scrumptious Indian food (such as samosas, tasty fried dough balls called gulab jamum, and yummy coconut chicken curry). A past highlight: taking a field trip to Artesia to explore the Little India neighborhood. Future plans include expanding on community service projects based in India.

The Rebel Innovators was established in 2006 by Prep students interested in science, math, engineering, and technology.  The club's primary purpose is to organize Prep students in collaborative science and technology projects and to participate in nationwide competitions.  The club's initial project is to build a robot to be entered in the "FIRST Robotics Competition."  FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization that organizes various science and technology competitions around the country.  The Rebel Innovators' inaugural robot project was partially financed by N.A.S.A.'s Robotics Alliance Project.

The Sierra Club has started a school-wide recycling program. Paper products are being closely monitored on campus, and we hope to continue this program.

The Symphony Orchestra is an approximately 40-piece ensemble consisting of both high school and middle school students. String, winds, brass players, and percussionists come together once a week to rehearse the repertoire of the master symphonic composers; there is additional rehearsal in daily string and wind classes. The Symphony Orchestra typically performs three to five times in concerts on and off campus throughout the school year.

The Young Republicans Club meets each Thursday at lunchtime to discuss politics and issues around the world. All students are invited to bring a lunch and participate in respectful, lively conversation.
