La Maestra - Rachel Worby Visits Prep
Ms. Rachel Worby, music director and conductor of The Pasadena POPS Orchestra, visited Prep on Monday, Februrary 13, 2006, to speak with the student body about her experiences and work as one of America's most inspiring musical directors. Ms. Worby is one of the very few female conductors in the country.
She is the force behind innovative music education programs in Pasadena and Los Angeles schools. Have been told repeatedly in life, "a woman can never be a conductor," Ms. Worby's conversation with Prep students stressed the importance of day-to-day discipline and hard work in order to overcome social norms and prejudice that limit career choices and advancement. This assembly, sponsored by the Student Senate, was a remarkable opportunity for students to visit with one Los Angeles' most charismatic and powerful figures in the performing arts.
