The Loughrie Cup Golf Tournament
Head golf coach Bob Loughrie's annual season finale, entitled "The Loughrie Cup," was held at Altadena Golf Course on Tuesday, May 23rd. The event is a fun-filled, relaxed competition where teams combine upper school varsity and J.V. players with members of the middle school golf team.
Every three holes, the rules change as teams vie for the student title. The fiercest competition, however, took place between the adult teams as Coach Loughrie teamed with his middle school coach, Garrett Ohara, against headmaster Peter Bachmann who paired with J.V. coach and Director of Human Development, Mike Roffina. The 2006 Loughrie Cup was dramatically claimed by the Bachmann-Roffina team as they rallied from two strokes back on the final hole to score a one stroke victory.
This year's event had a special touch as Prep grad Brett Kanda '06 returned for a guest appearance. Brett's spectacular victory in last year's CIF/SCGA championship is one of Prep's greatest sports memories. Following the cup competition, Coach Loughrie offered accolades and presented awards to the upper school and middle golfers before an appreciative audience of family and local golfers in the Altadena Golf Course restaurant.
