The Title “Prep’s Got Talent” Sums It Up Nicely
At Saturday evening’s October 15 “Prep’s Got Talent” bi-annual talent show, emcees Karlsen Termini ’13 and Ms. Jill Riehl set the tone for an enjoyable and fun evening. Many observers were impressed that the event showcased talents from all grade levels (and even some faculty) at Flintridge Prep. Under the capable guidance of the show’s student production team Isaac Yamamoto ’13, Josué Hernandez ’12, and Suzanna Tan ’12, 18 students were chosen from the over 30 acts who auditioned.
The acts were judged by faculty members Mr. Max Huber and Mr. Pradip Chandrasoma and awards were presented to 3rd place winner The Hip-Hop Club (Joon Kim ’12, Monica Cho ’12, Arielle Murphy ’13, Harrison Jung ’13, Christine Kazanchian ’14, and Tyler Scott ’14). The dance group performed an energetic sequence called “Butterfly/Treat You Good.”
The 2nd place winner was Elissa Kwon ’16, who sang and performed “Wild Horses” on the piano. This young musician is certainly a talent to watch.
Mimi Klein ’14 won first place for her wonderful singing performance. Mimi belted out “Hallelujah I Love Him So,” demonstrating her amazing range as well as an ability to connect with the audience.
While the judges deliberated, members from Prep’s faculty showcased their talents including a presentation of magic from Dr. Robert Parker ’78, a barbershop quartet including Mr. Steve Hill, and Mr. Rob Lewis, along with students Josué Hernandez and Isaac Yamamoto. Mr. Mike Mullins performed a rockin’ electric guitar solo.
At the end of the evening the audience voted to award the over $1,000 collected at the door to CoachArt, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with life-threatening illness by providing free personal lessons in the arts and athletics.
