Class of 2018 Comes Together for 'Forever Young' Junior Parent Dinner

In a long-standing Flintridge Prep tradition, students in the Class of 2018 took time between assessments, sports and other activities to put on a dinner and evening of entertainment for their parents. This year’s Junior Parent Dinner, with its 1970s and 1980s Forever Young theme, had a silent auction, dinner, live auction and a live performance.

“JPD is an amazing school tradition,” said Reggie Ursettie, the Junior Parent Dinner faculty advisor. “There are many moving parts that the kids can be a part of. We had 100% participation.”

According to 11th grade dean Katie Canton, the students worked on 9 committees, with 38 students taking leadership roles. The committees ranged from communications to hospitality and worked in concert with each other on everything from creating programs to designing the dinner menu.

“Some students volunteered their time on the day of the event in order to ensure that every last detail was not only completed, but polished,” Canton said. “Additionally, over 30 students bustled as wait staff. Plus, the entire cast was involved in the show production, with 14 acts that reflected the talent and diversity of the members of the class of 2018.

“There was an unprecedented silent auction, where students donated their artwork and personal talents or services. The entire class also collaborated on a three-panel work of art inspired by Jackson Pollack for the live auction. Students put their personal stamp—or splatter of paint—on the work, and it was signed by every member of the class,” added Canton.

After dinner, parents adjourned to the Norris Auditorium for Forever Young, a talent revue hosted by students Izzy Wachtel and Katie Lee.

Highlights include a classical rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” on piano and violin, a spot-on cover of “Hotel California” (including fantastic drum and guitar solos) and a hilariously choreographed dance to “Ladies Night.” All the students brought creativity, fun and talent to their performances.

“Parents were laughing and singing along with the music that was so familiar to them. When it is all said and done, the kids always say it is one of their fondest memories at Prep,” said Ursettie.
