Posted 03/17/2017 03:40PM

Happy Friday, Rebels Fans!

We have two exciting pieces of news to start us off this week.

First, girls soccer’s Helen Schaefer '19 and Julia Gonzalez '18 were both named All-CIF first team. Both players have led the area in total points the last two seasons, with 69 goals and 45 assists (a total of 182 points) for Schaefer and 55 goals and 54 assists (164 points) for Gonzalez. Schaefer broke the school record for most points in a season this year, with 31 goals and 30 assists. She also broke the school record for most goals in a season last year, with 38 goals. Their contributions helped the team break a handful of school records this season, including:

Most wins in a season: 23

Most shutouts in a season: 17

Most goals scored in a season: 113

Most assists in a season: 108

Most points in a season: 334

Longest run in program history by making the Semifinals, State Regionals and CIF

Congratulations to the girls and coaches, whose dedication and effort have been an inspiration to the whole community!

Second, our girls cross country team was handpicked by the LA Board of Supervisors to receive a special honor for their accomplishments this season. The team, coaches and parents attended Tuesday’s board meeting, where they received personalized certificates in recognition of their three consecutive State Championship wins and four consecutive CIF wins. Congratulations again on all your successes, runners!

Turning back to our spring sports, things are off to a great start. Baseball had its fourth win in a row, with an 8-6 final tally against Pasadena. Their win streak ended with a loss against Poly last week, but their record is strong at 6-3 overall so far. Boys volleyball is raking in the wins, with a 9-2 record overall and a 1-0 record in League. Last week included five big wins (vs. San Marino, Poly, La Salle, Providence and Chadwick) and only one loss (vs. Temple City). Softball was brought down by Chadwick with a 6-2 score. They face Mark Keppel, Firebaugh and Rio Hondo Prep the week after the break.
