Recent Communications from Prep

February 26, 2021

Dear Community Member,

COVID-19 case numbers continue to decline, and there appears to be an increasing likelihood that Los Angeles County will soon enter the less restrictive Red Tier, indicating that transmissions, infections, and hospitalizations will be low enough to sustain a phased reopening of schools with grades 7-12. Flintridge Prep is committed to offering a hybrid learning option for families soon after LA County enters the Red Tier.

To gauge family interest in returning to campus for hybrid learning, please complete the survey (emailed to parents on February 26) for each of your Prep children (one survey per child) by Monday, March 1. You are not bound to your decision; however, if you’re not sure if your child plans to return to in-person hybrid learning, we ask that you answer “No” to the question about returning.

As a reminder, Flintridge Prep’s hybrid learning program will consist of the following, with more details forthcoming:

  • Coming to campus for hybrid learning is completely optional, and students can continue to learn online via Zoom at any time. However, all students will be added to one of two stable groups, Blue or Silver, with approximately half the students on campus at any given time.
  • Siblings will be placed in the same stable group.
  • In a typical week, students will come to school Monday-Tuesday-Friday or Wednesday-Thursday.
  • Masks will be required at all times and we will follow all six-foot physical distancing requirements both inside and outside of classrooms.
  • Community members will be asked to electronically acknowledge on a weekly basis community expectations and personal responsibilities with regard to health and safety.
  • Community members will be asked to electronically acknowledge on a weekly basis community expectations and personal responsibilities with regard to health and safety.
  • The school will provide mandatory PCR testing at no cost to students and employees.
  • HVAC systems have been optimized to provide maximum ventilation.
  • Enhanced cleaning protocols have been established in order to ensure that all spaces are frequently sanitized.
  • Protocols have been established if someone becomes ill on campus and/or diagnosed with COVID-19.

Our phased approach to a return to hybrid learning is consistent with our commitment to maintaining and protecting the physical and emotional health of our community, providing the best quality academic program and student experience possible, and being adaptable, patient, and caring as our parents and faculty navigate how these changes will impact their commutes, childcare plans, and other personal considerations. We appreciate our families’ commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of our whole community, and we look forward to a safe return to classroom learning.

All my best,

Jim Pickett
Head of School
