High School Athletics
It was a big week of recognition for Flintridge Prep athletics—four of our teams have been named Academic Champions by CIF: softball, football, boys tennis, and boys volleyball. The academic champion program recognizes teams participating in CIF-approved sports with the highest collective grade-point average. In order to be considered, the compiled grade point average in all courses that receive a grade for the entire varsity team must be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 non-weighted scale.

The softball team dominated this week, shutting out Mayfield Senior 10–0. Players went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a solo walk-off home run, and another player recorded 7 strikeouts.
The boys volleyball team continued its strong season, taking down Polytechnic 3–0. The team also competed in a tournament over the weekend, finishing with a solid 3–3 record.
The baseball team had a busy week, beating Shalhevet 12–2 before falling to Rio Hondo Prep in a close 5–4 game. The team is back in action today, facing off against Polytechnic at 3:30 p.m.
The boys tennis team locked up a league championship by defeating Poly last week 11-7! This win marks the team’s fifth consecutive league championship. A doubles team qualified for the CIF individual tournament, which will start the first week of May.
The golf team recorded its best score of the season in a thrilling 190–192 victory over Polytechnic at Eaton Canyon Golf Course, avenging a 10-stroke loss from the previous month. One player shot a standout par 35! The win puts the team in contention for a three-way tie for the league title if Chadwick beats Polytechnic and the Wolves win their final match against Rio Hondo Prep on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Eaton Canyon Golf Course.
The boys and girls swim team competed last week against Westridge and fell in a close match. The Wolves will now set their sights on the league prelims and finals this week. The Prep League prelims will take place at Pasadena Poly on Thursday at 4 p.m., and finals will take place at Pasadena Poly on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The boys and girls track and field teams continue to dominate, highlighted by senior Akemi F. ’26, who broke the school record in discus with a throw of 114'2". At the third Prep League Cluster meet, the boys secured first place while the girls tied for first. The team also excelled at the San Gabriel Valley Championships, where the freshmen boys swept first and second place in the 1600m and took first in the 3200m, while the varsity squad claimed first place in the boys 3200m and girls 100m, and second place in the girls 400m. The Wolves will compete at league prelims today, Wednesday, April 22.
