• All families for whom the full cost of a Flintridge Prep education feels out of reach based on their family’s financial circumstances should consider exploring Flintridge Prep’s financial aid program and submit an application. 
• Awards are based on a family’s demonstrated need and can cover from 10 to 100% of a student’s tuition and expenses. 
• Awards are calculated from information families submit on the online Clarity application. The school considers each family’s individual circumstances within the context of Flintridge Prep's financial aid program.

• Families applying for financial aid from Flintridge Prep complete the online Clarity application.  Please note, the financial aid application for the 2027-2028 school year will open on September 1, 2026.
• Clarity provides a need-based financial aid analysis service for independent schools that includes an income verification process.  
• The $60 application fee to apply through Clarity covers your financial aid application to all schools using the Clarify platform. Clarity automatically waives application fees for families whose income falls below a certain threshold. Families can also request a fee waiver code from finaid@flintridgeprep.org.

Financial aid is money that is set aside in Flintridge Prep's budget to support its student community. Awards are not paid back to the school.

Financial aid calculations are determined from the information the family provides on the Clarity application. One in 4 students at Flintridge Prep receives financial aid (in 2025-2026, the average award covers 55% of tuition). The financial aid award equals Flintridge Prep’s tuition minus the amount calculated that a family is able to pay towards tuition.

• At Flintridge Prep, most expenses are included in tuition (e.g., books, outdoor education, and some grade-level activities). 
• Financial aid awards cover costs associated with a Flintridge Prep education, such as outdoor education programs, some summer session programs/classes, and technology (laptop).
• Note that dining, athletics, and other co-curricular programs may involve additional costs not covered by tuition or financial aid. 

Yes. The percentage of tuition covered by a student’s financial aid award applies towards the purchase of a laptop computer (maximum cost of $1,300) for our Bring Your Own Device program. Reach out to finaid@flintridgeprep.org for more information.

• Flintridge Prep believes that all parents/guardians have an obligation to contribute to their student’s education. Therefore, we require all parents/guardians, custodial and non-custodial, to complete the Clarity application; all assets will be considered in reviewing students for a financial aid award. In addition, if either parent/guardian has remarried, Flintridge Prep will consider the income and assets of the second parent/guardian, keeping in mind the financial obligation of all parents/guardians to their own children. If either parent/guardian lives in a household with another adult, we may consider the assets of that person as well.
• Until all parents/guardians complete the financial aid application, Flintridge Prep’s financial aid committee will not consider the student’s application for an award. 

The following documents should be submitted according to the schedule below.

• Due January 6, 2027: Clarity application, including access to 2025 Federal 1040 or 1040A and all supporting tax schedules and documents.
• Upon Request: Additional tax forms not previously uploaded but requested from the Financial Aid Committee

Flintridge Prep’s financial aid is based on demonstrated  financial need. No awards are granted based on merit or specific talents.

Newly-admitted students receive information about their financial aid awards with their admissions decision on Friday, March 12, 2027.

Families re-apply for financial aid every year. For the duration of your child’s enrollment at Flintridge Prep, the school will support your family at a level that reflects your demonstrated financial need based on your Clarity application.

If a family believes they will need financial aid at any point during their student’s enrollment at Flintridge Prep, they should submit a financial aid application when they submit their application for admission. A full-pay application communicates to the school that the family is capable of covering all educational expenses for the duration of their student’s time at Flintridge Prep. Unless there is a significant unexpected change in the family’s economic circumstances, Flintridge Prep will not consider an application for financial aid once a student enrolls as a full-pay student.

Our admissions committee seeks students who will contribute to our community with their unique talents, interests, and values. Only after an applicant is identified as a strong candidate for admission is their financial aid application reviewed. While we are proud of our generous financial aid budget, the number of families who apply for need-based financial aid often exceeds the funds we have available. 

Ultimately, we believe a thoughtful, caring approach is vital. We extend an official offer of admission to an applicant only when we can also meet a family’s demonstrated financial need, ensuring that we can welcome and fully support every student who joins our community.
