ACL Continues to Help Organize JP Blecksmith Memorial 5k

By Alex Payne

Flintridge Prep’s Athletic Council on Leadership (ACL) helped host the 18th annual J.P. Blecksmith Memorial 5K in San Marino this past Fourth of July. Prep students assisted in setting up tables, handing out race bibs and medals, as well as checking in all participants and providing runners with water at mile markers.

The 5k honors the life and sacrifice of J.P. Blecksmith, a Prep alum from the Class of 1999 and a Marine 2nd Lieutenant who was killed in Fallujah, Iraq, on November 11, 2004, while leading his Marines in support of Operation Phantom Fury. The event's proceeds and other donations went to support several memorial scholarships and veterans’ memorials around the San Gabriel Valley.

“All of ACL was grateful to volunteer for such a meaningful cause and I’m super thankful for all the work my classmates did to make the 5K a success,” ACL Community Leader Andrew Jordan ’23 said.
