About the Physical Education Program
Our mission is to provide all students with a quality instructional program in a safe, secure and caring environment. Daily we practice mind and body wellness for their current and future selves.

Students are involved in a wide range of activities essential to developing their mastery of motor, skill, and social and emotional development. They also participate in small and large group games, and whole class tournaments. Students also experience life fitness activities, as well as health and wellness lessons throughout the year. Through the curriculum we strive to enhance students' fitness levels, muscular development, and oxygen capacity, increase mental alertness and reduce stress levels. The physical education program promotes the full development of each student’s abilities.
Physical Education Department Philosophy
The philosophy of the Physical Education Department is to find joy through movement and be healthy and well for life. All students in 7th through 10th grade can develop appropriate skills and knowledge while increasing their strength and confidence. Many different elements of physical activity and instruction help develop a commitment to physical activity and lifelong health.
Department Goals
Department expectations are that students will:
- Develop effective motor skills and understand the fundamentals of movement by engaging in and analyzing multiple sports and games.
- Develop and maintain a positive self-image and strive to become the best that they can be through movement and play.
- Develop a solid foundation of personal strength as well as understand proper execution of exercises for use in the future.
- Develop appropriate social and emotional behaviors as well as enhance communication skills by working independently and with others during planned physical activities.
High school students who participate in Flintridge Prep sports are not required to take physical education courses during the duration of that sport.
