Endowment Funds

The Flintridge Prep Endowment Fund is the school's financial backbone–a perpetual savings account that produces stable and reliable income that allows us to plan better for both current students and generations to come. Flintridge Prep's endowment fund helps the school grow stronger, sustain excellence and allow it to thrive over the long term. Endowment income supports tuition assistance programs and faculty compensation.

The Flintridge Prep Endowment consists of numerous named funds established over the years to honor family and friends. A minimum gift of $50,000 is required to start a named endowment fund at the school.


Andani Teaching Chair

Established in 2006, the Andani Teaching Chair is awarded for a two-year term to a faculty member who exhibits distinguished teaching and campus-wide contributions. The current chair is Julie Mejia.

Bachmann Fund

Established in 1993 by the S. Albert and Peter H. Bachmann families to support faculty summer study. Peter Bachmann joined the faculty in 1980 and served as head of school from 1991 to 2020.

Baribault Faculty Fund

Established in 1994 by Susan and William Baribault, parents of Paul  Baribault ’92 and Maryann  Baribault Zeira ’96, this faculty development fund honors the dedicated teachers at Prep.

JP Blecksmith Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 2004 by the Blecksmith family in memory of 2nd Lieutenant James Patrick Blecksmith ’99, who died while serving in Iraq, to provide tuition assistance for deserving students, support leadership opportunities for selected students of promise and fund the JP Blecksmith Annual Award to a rising senior who embodies JP’s qualities of leadership, scholarship, athletic commitment and public service.

Brisbois Family Endowment Fund

Established in 1994 by Brenda and Roy Brisbois, parents of Matthew Brisbois ’95, Andrew Brisbois ’98 and Kristin Brisbois ’11 to support communication skills and enrichment programs for both students and faculty in the field of public speaking and debate. 

Brown Family Scholarship Fund

Established in 2012 by Michael and Martha Brown, parents of Brendan Brown ’06, Matthew Brown ’07 and Morgan Brown ’10 to support tuition assistance for deserving students.

Cannell Family Teaching Chair

Established in 1999 by the Cannell family, whose Flintridge Prep graduates include Stephen J. Cannell ’60, Tawnia Cannell McKiernan ’87, Cody Cannell ’02 and Brenden McKiernan ’14 to recognize faculty excellence in the classroom. The current chair is Ingrid Herskind.

Carroll Family Athletic Endowment Fund

Established in 1997 by Lettice and Jeff Carroll, parents of Wesley Carroll ’99, Julie Carroll Jones ’01 and Blake Carroll ’01, to support athletic programs.

Chraghchian/Markari Endowment Fund 

Established in 2019 by Patrick Chraghchian and Marlene Markari parents of Stefen Chraghchian ’14, Alexis Markari ’26 and Audrey Markari ’26 to support the general needs of the school.

Class of 1994 Endowment Fund

Established by the Class of 1994, spending from this fund is divided in half each year to support the school’s academic departments and campus landscaping. 

Class of 2014 Endowment Fund

Established by the Class of 2014 to provide an annual award of $600 or 5% of the endowment, whichever is greater, to a teacher who exemplifies outstanding scholarship and instruction in the classroom. The 2022 recipient was Eric HALLETT. 

Christopher Cobb Memorial Fund

Established in 1992 by Doreen Cobb and her family as a memorial to Christopher Cobb, father of Rob Cobb ’96, to provide tuition assistance for deserving students. 

Crawford Family/Alex Rivera Endowment for Athletic Initiatives Fund

Established in 2014 by Orsi and Jeffrey Crawford ’86, parents of Jack Crawford ’20 and CJ Crawford ’24, in honor of former Prep Athletic Director Alex Rivera, to support Prep’s athletic programs. A portion will go to support the Athletic Council on Leadership initiatives.

Keri and Andrew Crowell Family Endowment Fund for Dance and the Arts

Established in 2016 by Keri and Andrew Crowell, parents of Christine Crowell ’18, to support the ongoing needs of the dance program and dance company at Flintridge Prep. The funds may be used to support field trips, master classes, the purchase of performance attire, equipment and other program needs.  

Detoy Prize for Excellence

Established in 1994 by Virginia and Charles J. Detoy ’42, parents of Richard Detoy ’72 and William Detoy ’74 and grandparents of Michael Detoy ’04, in memory of Charles and Henrietta Detoy, to recognize excellence. The 2022 recipient is Norma Basilio.

Annette M. and Paul K. Doyle Distinguished Speakers Fund

Established in 1994 by the William K. Doyle family to honor the grandparents of Kenneth White ’87, Joanne Doyle Pauley ’91 and William Doyle, Jr. ’98, to support distinguished persons who appear on campus for the purpose of addressing students on topical issues.

Frances B. Estes Scholarship Fund

Established in 1995 by the administration and the Board of Trustees in honor of longtime Director of Admissions Fran Estes to provide tuition assistance for deserving students.

Fasken Endowment Fund

Inaugurated in 1950 by Joseph Fasken and the Class of 1949 to provide scholarships for deserving students. Mr. Fasken taught history at Prep from 1942 to 1968. 

Edward E. Ford Faculty Endowment Fund

Established in 1994 through a challenge grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation and the Prep community to support faculty summer study. 

Thomas Fry Endowment Fund

Established in 2010 in memory of longtime history teacher and football coach Tom Fry,  a portion of the fund annually supports enhancements in the weight room and a $500 prize for a senior at graduation who embodies Tom’s enthusiasm for athletics, generosity of spirit, and love of life. The 2022 recipient was John Stetson ’22.

Gamboa Family Endowment 

Established in 2019 by Yasmin and Juan Gamboa, parents of Matthew Gamboa ’21 and Michael ’23 to support the general needs of Flintridge Preparatory School. Funds are used at the discretion of the school. 

General Endowment Fund

Initiated by the administration to provide ongoing funds for the continuing betterment of the school. 

Gibbs International Education Opportunities Fund

Established in 1994 by Priscilla and Nelson F. Gibbs, Nelson Gibbs ’83, Jennifer Gibbs Bauer ’86 and Claire Gibbs ’87, to support international educational opportunities for Prep students.

Global Studies Endowment

Established in 2022 with the net proceeds from the 2022 Prep Benefit, this endowment supports the school’s global studies curriculum and fosters an inclusive and ethical world view by providing need-based scholarships for Prep trips, lectures, faculty research and program funding.

Doug ’40 and Bill ’69 Goodan Endowment Fund

Established in 2011 by Eunice Goodan in memory of her husband Doug Goodan ’40 and in honor of their son Bill Goodan ’69, to be used at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.

L. Boyd Higgins and Jean M. Higgins Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established in 2013 through an estate gift from L. Boyd and Jean M. Higgins, parents of Judson Higgins ’76 and Paul Higgins ’78, to support scholarships for deserving students.

Victoria Sung and Frank Hu Family Scholarship

Established in 2016 by Victoria Sung and Frank Hu, parents of Emilie Hu ’17 and Jordan Hu ’17, to annually provide tuition assistance for deserving students.

Alex Jacobs 2008 Memorial Endowment for Music 

Established in 2020 by the Paul G. Jacobs family in memory of Alex Jacobs ’08 to support the music program as well as to support students in need of financial assistance to purchase or tune musical instruments and equipment.

The David and Rebekah Johnson Family Endowment

Established in 2013 by David and Rebekah Johnson, parents of Scott Johnson ’16 and Chris Johnson ’19, to support faculty growth and development opportunities.

Kumar Family Fund

Established in 1996 by Dr. Nirmal and Sneh Kumar, parents of Sameer Kumar ’00, in honor of Dr. Kumar’s parents, to support science programs.

Katherine and David S.K. Lee Family Endowment for Student Leadership

Established in 2014 by David S.K. and Katherine Lee, parents of Rachel Lee ’14 and Ryan Lee ’18, to support senior leadership programs, including retreats and peer counseling.

Leslie Family Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2012 by Kris and Reid Leslie, parents of Ryan Leslie ’11, Michael Leslie ’13, and Robbie Leslie ’16, to provide tuition assistance to deserving students with preference given to scholar-athletes who exemplify Prep’s commitment to a balanced educational experience.

Martinet-Hostovich Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2014 by Teena Hostovich and Doug Martinet, parents of Michael Martinet ’14, to provide tuition assistance to deserving students.

Mazin Family Endowment Fund

Established in 2015 by Melissa and Craig Mazin, parents of Jack Mazin ’19, to support the school’s performing and dramatic arts programs. The funds are used at the discretion of the theater and performing arts departments to assist with various production needs.

Ouyang Scholarship Endowment Fund

Established in 2002 by Debbie and Paul Ouyang, parents of Jennifer Ouyang ’06 and Olivia Ouyang ’10, to support tuition assistance for deserving students.

Parents Teaching Chair

Established in 2001 through the diligent fundraising efforts of parent volunteers, this endowed teaching chair recognizes distinguished faculty who uniquely enrich the lives of students. The current chair is Biliana Popova.

John Plumb ’64 Endowment Fund

Established in 1990 by the Alumni Association in honor of John Plumb ’64, who served as a teacher, coach, and administrator from 1968 to 1990, the fund supports faculty enrichment.

Randall Fund for Faculty Growth

Established in 1995 by Eleanor and James Randall, parents of Starlite Randall ’95, Matthew Beckley ’97, Benjamin Randall ’07, and Jordan Randall ’08, to offer enrichment opportunities to Prep faculty.

Rose Endowment Fund

Established in 1976 as a tribute to Joseph Rose, who taught French, Spanish, and English from 1936 to 1970 and served two terms as headmaster, to provide tuition assistance to deserving students. 

Smith Endowment Fund

Established in 1983 by an anonymous alumnus in honor of Leroy Smith, former interim head of school and Prep English teacher from 1943 to 1967, to support special projects. 

Stein Family Endowment Fund for Human Development

Established in 1995 by the Eugene Stein family to support Human Development programs.  

Stevens Family Endowment

Established in 2016 by Monique and Paul Stevens, parents of Connor Stevens ’18 and Evan Stevens ’20, to support Flintridge Prep’s ongoing needs and programs. Funds are used at the discretion of the school.

Elizabeth Allen Stuart Memorial Fund

Established in 1996 by Joyce and Barry Swayne, parents of Steven Swayne ’88 and David Swayne ’90, in honor of Elizabeth Allen Stuart, to support the school’s Club for Christ.

Scott Studenmund ’08 Memorial Fund

Established in 2014 by Jaynie, Woody and Connell ’12 Studenmund and with the support of numerous donors in memory of Green Beret Army SSG Scott Studenmund ’08, who died while serving in Afghanistan. The fund supports an annual award for an outstanding coach who exhibits a devotion to athletic excellence, student development and a commitment to public service. The fund also enhances athletics facilities and playing fields.

Student Investment Fund

Established in 1997 with gifts from Paula and Jeff Miller, Jeri and Tom Mitchell and Karen and Larry Tashjian as a student investment fund to enable students in their senior year to take a class in which they learn portfolio management, investment strategies, salesmanship and teamwork.

Sun Family Endowment Fund

Established in 2021, by Shanshan Sun, mother of Maggie Lee ’24, the fund supports the general educational needs of the school.

Tsao Family Endowment for Chinese Studies  

Established in 2019 by Carol Chen and Harry Tsao, parents of Kate Tsao ’21, William Tsao ’21 and Kelly Tsao ’24, to support a faculty member engaged in the instruction of Chinese Studies, which may include Chinese languages, Chinese history and/or culture, both on campus and off-campus.

Trustee Teaching Chair

Established in 1997 by Prep’s Board of Trustees to recognize a career teacher who devotes him or herself full-time to the classroom. The current chair is Manuel Nuñez.

Verbinski Family Endowment Fund

Established in 2015 by Clayton and Gore Verbinski, parents of Anton Verbinski ’14 and Ivan Verbinski ’17, to support expenses associated with student presentations, including senior capstone presentations and Independent Study projects.

Matthew Wells ’88 Memorial Fund

Established in 2002 through memorial gifts from the school community saddened by the untimely death of Matthew Wells ’88, who served as Commissioner General during his senior year, to support student government.

Zhang-Liu Family Endowment for Global Awareness

Established in 2016 by Karen Zhang and Yuquan Liu, parents of Melody Liu ’20, and augmented in 2021 by family members CaiHong Lin and DongHai Zhang, parents of Fiona Zhang ’25 and aunt and uncle of Alice Su ’19, to support curriculum that encourages students to lead full and responsible lives as global citizens. The fund fosters an ethical and inclusive world view by providing resources for student and faculty research, travel and field trips, as well as funding for speakers and special programs. This fund is currently being used to support a faculty member in the instruction of Chinese Studies.

General Scholarship Fund

Created to provide ongoing financial aid for students in need. 

Notley Scholarships

Since 1995, annual scholarship grants have generously been provided by the Notley Foundation to students based on financial need and academic qualifications.  

Doris Walton Scholarship

Established in 2006 to honor Doris Walton, whose administration career at Prep spanned five decades and touched the lives of thousands of students, hundreds of faculty members and every headmaster of the school. The Doris Walton Scholarship supports the school’s financial aid program.  


Special Funds

Class of 1992 Fine Arts Fund

Special talent and interest in the fine arts curriculum led this class to begin a fund for the benefit of Prep’s fine arts program.  

Grinnell Memorial Fund

Established in 1986 in memory of Dan Grinnell ’87 to support the performing arts program.  

Library and Learning Center Fund

This fund supports the ongoing maintenance and acquisition of library books, equipment, technology and materials.  

Neupauer Memorial Fund

Established in 1983 in memory of John Neupauer, who taught biology and Latin from 1956 to 1982 with selfless dedication to Prep, to support science programs.   

Wood Memorial Fund

Established in 1984 in memory of Coach Jim Wood, the backbone of Prep’s athletic department for three decades (1945 to 1978), to support athletics.
