Weekly Sports Roundup: Cross Country Sets the Stage for League Finals
Flintridge Prep Sports Roundup

This past Friday, October 22, both the girls and boys cross country teams saw some excellent performances in the 73rd Annual Mt. SAC Invitational.

The girls cross country team, ranked 7th in CIF Southern Section, finished 2nd in their race, besting Sierra Canyon (ranked 8th) by 23 points. Led by Anya Rose ’23 (21:31), the top five runners (including Rosalinda Chen ’22, Nicole Mirzaian ’22, Hailey Wilson ’24, and Julia Bonk ’24) finished within one minute and 48 seconds of one another. The JV squad, led by Audrey Jung ’23 and Joyce Kirk ’22, also placed 2nd.

The boys varsity team’s top performers were Dominick Schrader ’22, who ran the fastest Prep time of the day, and Bryan Taniguchi ’23. The 10th grade boys placed 2nd in their race, with Kevin Martinez ’24 and Nico Stanton ’24 leading the way. Carter Saka ’25 and Will Koh ’25 led the 9th grade boys to a first-place finish in their race.

The teams will finish their regular season on Saturday with League Finals at Pierce College on October 30, where the girls team hopes to defeat rival Chadwick.

Last week, Prep’s football team fought hard but could not overcome Windward. The Wolves will take on longtime rival Chadwick at this Friday’s Homecoming game at 6:00 p.m. on Prep’s Memorial Athletic Field.
