Weekly Sports Roundup: Football, Boys Water Polo Close Out the Season

Flintridge Prep football had a great season this year, and it has now come to an end. Last Saturday’s away game concluded with Thacher 66, Prep 39. “I’m so proud of these guys!” Coach Russell White says. “It was an honor for me to help shape our future leaders.” The Wolves have five seniors: Christian Baydaline ’22, Alec Gharibian ’22, Nicholas Gonzalez ’22, Eric Hong ’22, and Brooks Walker ’22.

The boys water polo played its first round of CIF Playoffs against Claremont High School on Tuesday, November 2. Prep fell to Claremont early in the first quarter. They battled back and forth but could not make up for the early deficit. The game ended with a 12-8 loss to Claremont. Coach Andrew Phillips shares that goalie Dylan Mealey ’22 played another terrific game with 11 saves and center defender Diego Barraclough ’22 earned four of Prep’s eight goals. Prep has six seniors they are saying goodbye to: Diego Barraclough ’22, Henry Lindholm ’22, Dylan Mealey ’22, Spencer Seid ’22, and Diego Ynzunza ’22.

Middle school winter sports kicked off with boys soccer, girls basketball, and tennis. The boys soccer team played Chandler and Poly and tied both teams with a score of 4-4. In their matchup against Poly, the Tigers led 4-0 at the half, but the Wolves had an amazing second-half comeback. While the girls basketball teams both lost to Chandler on Tuesday, they regrouped to defeat Poly later in the week. Tennis teams both fell to Chandler and are looking forward to taking on Poly on Wednesday. The boys will be at home at Scholl Canyon and the girls will play away at Caltech.
