Weekly Sports Roundup: Cross Country Heads to CIF Finals, Winter Sports Update

The boys varsity cross country team raced on Friday, November 12 at Mt. SAC in the CIF Division 5 Prelims. Their team placed fourth in their heat, qualifying for CIF Finals this upcoming Saturday, November 20. The course was shortened, due to the hot weather conditions, and team captain Dominick Schrader ’22 led the way for the team. Rounding out the scoring for the team were Bryan Taniguchi ’23, Kevin Martinez ’24, Ryan Ginn ’24, and Carter Sakai ’25. 

Girls cross country overcame record November heat and a last-minute course change to finish 4th in their race at Mt. SAC. Anya Rose ’24, led the team with a time of 14:42. The squad will advance to CIF Finals on Saturday. 

This week the boys varsity basketball team fell to Cajon San Bernardino. The JV team beat Burroughs 67-63 and Arleta, 50-48.

Middle school winter sports are in full swing. Here’s a recap of last week’s games: 

  • Last week, the boys soccer team defeated High Point on November 8 and fell 2-3 to Mayfield on November 9 in an extremely exciting and close game. The team played Clairbourn on November 16, defeating them 5-2. 
  • The girls basketball teams both beat High Point on November 8. On November 9, both the A and B teams played Mayfield Junior. While the A team lost 19-24, the B team won 7-6 with a last-minute buzzer beater from Amelia Ralph ’27. Both teams play Rio Hondo on Thursday, November 18. 
  • Our tennis teams both beat Poly on November 10. Both teams won two matches and lost two, but the Wolves came out victorious in the end. Up next, both teams will take on Mayfield Junior on November 17.
