Weekly Sports Roundup - January 18

The boys basketball team had a solid week of action. After making it to the finals of their holiday tournament and dropping a heart breaker to CV, they beat Price this past weekend and then took down Providence, last year's league champs, in a very exciting game, winning 50-49. The Wolves played hard from start to finish, and this is the kind of win that really gets all players going as we head into the last five league games of the year. The Wolves also competed in an MLK showcase this past weekend, where they played the # 15 ranked team in the state—Brentwood. Although the Wolves played hard, Brentwood proved to be a very good team and took the win. The Wolves’ next game will be this coming Friday, Jan 20 7:00 p.m. @ Poly.

The girls basketball team played two games this past week and came out with a 1-1 split. On Wednesday, the Wolves played Village Christian, who they have battled several times in the late rounds of the playoffs recently and fell 55-73 in a tough game. The Wolves bounced back and beat Providence 66-25. This game started out close as the first quarter ended with the Wolves leading 7-5, but the Wolves turned up their play and out-scored Providence by double digits in the next two quarters to help them cruise to victory. This win brings theWolves’ record to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in league. The next game will be this Thursday, Jan 19 5:00 p.m. @ Mayfield.

The girls water polo team came back from break and played three league games last week against La Salle, Chadwick, and Mayfield in what would prove to be a big week. The Wolves won every game, beating La Salle 12-6, Chadwick 14-10, and Mayfield 9-7!  With a record of 9-5 overall and 5-1 in league, they are in a solid position to compete in the playoffs and possibly contend for a league championship. The Wolves’ next game was this Tuesday,  Jan 17 @ Poly where they looked to avenge the only league loss they have this year.

The boys soccer team came back from break after going 1-1-1 in the La Cañada tournament to play Poly on the road. This was a tough game to play as the weather made things very difficult to practice on top of having to travel to Poly. The Wolves fought hard, but eventually fell to Poly 1-3. This loss brings their record to 3-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league. This year the Wolves will be playing each league opponent three times for a total of nine league games, which is a change from the normal two league games per opponent. TheWolves’ next game will be Wednesday, Jan 18 3:15 p.m. vs Chadwick @ GSC.

The girls soccer team came back from break and played two games last week, coming out with victories in both. The Wolves played Poly on Wednesday and beat them 9-0 and then played Mayfield on Friday, winning that game 2-1. The Mayfield game was a great battle by both teams where the Wolves took an early lead only to have Mayfield come back and tie thescore. In the end, the Wolves scored late to eventually win the game. This brings their record to 11-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in league. The Wolves’ played this week on Tuesday, Jan 17 3:30 p.m. @ Providence and will play Friday, Jan 20 3:00 p.m. @ Chadwick.
