Weekly Sports Roundup: Spring Teams and Athletes Head to CIF

We’re looking ahead to our athletes and teams competing at CIF playoffs and semifinals. Keep an eye on the Athletics Calendar for all upcoming games and we'll be back next week with updates from swimming and track and field!  


The Wolves (10-2 league) landed a 3-0 victory against Providence on April 27. Max Brunngraber ’23 pitched four innings and Josh Beserra ’22 pitched three leading to a great team win! The 1st round CIF game takes place against Highland this Thursday, May 5 at 3:15 p.m. at the Glendale Sports Complex. 


The tennis team beat Chadwick 17-1 on April 27, and they are the #2 seed in the tournament! The Wolves head to their 1st round CIF match against Mark Keppel High School today, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. 


Six riders represented Prep this year in the Interscholastic Equestrian League (IEL) and recently received results from three shows combined. In the JV division of IEL, Prep finished 15th out of 72 schools for the season. Finley Hamilton ’27 finished 16th, Olivia Brown ’23 placed 20th, and Kaylen Mirzaian ’24 placed 30th out of 50 riders. Hamilton is the JV Overall Champion for Jumpers for the 2021-2022 IEL season. In the freshman division of 74 riders, Jay Goodwine ’27 was 39th overall, Mia Wu ’25 placed 54th, and Chloe Oh ’26 placed 62nd. 


Prep lost the golf match against Poly on Wednesday, 237 to 241. Prep was led by Marcus Chen ’22 with a 1 under par 35. Prep kept the Mystic Niblick in the Wolves’ den for another year. The Mystic Niblick is the trophy at stake in the yearly golf competition between Poly and Prep.  

Five players competed in the first day of the Prep League Tournament on May 3 to try to qualify for the CIF individual tournament next week.  


The Wolves fell to Pacifica Christian in the 1st round CIF game on April 28, closing out a successful season with a 16-5 record.  

Middle school boys volleyball will compete in the League Tournament next Monday, May 9.
