Weekly Sports Roundup: Track and Field Head to League Finals

 

TRACK AND FIELD 

At the April 13 Prep League meet, multiple runners registered their best times. In the 300m hurdle, Kevin Martinez ’24 clocked the No. 2 time in Prep history, according to Athletic.net. The boys 4x400 team of Ryan Ginn ’24, William Bigby ’24, Martino Porcu ’22, and Martinez put up the 8th best time in Prep history according to Athletic.net.

The Wolves competed in Prep League Prelims on April 19, with multiple runners qualifying for League Finals. Prep relay teams, hurdlers, 3200 runners, and triple jumpers automatically advanced to League Finals.

The Wolves compete next in the Prep League Finals on April 26.  

GOLF 

The Wolves won their league golf match against Providence High School on April 12, with Kaiden Hong ’25 leading the team and great support by Marcus Chen ’22, Gabi Varga ’23 and Rhys King ’24. The Wolves also won their league match against Chadwick on April 14. Henry Brookbanks ’23 led with a one over par 37, with great support from Alex Oh ’23 and Hong. Yesterday, the team defeated Poly 202 to 213 with another great performance by Hong, Oh, and Brookbanks. Catch them next Tuesday, April 26 as they take on Chadwick again. 

SOFTBALL

The softball team lost to Westridge 3-5 on April 14. Sarah Bougdanos ’23 went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a double, and Asta Uziel ’24 went 1 for 4 with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. The Wolves shut out rival Poly 7-0 on April 14 with Elise Fong ’25 pitching. Bougdanos went 2 for 3 with an RBI, run scored, and a stolen base. With a whopping score of 19-1, the Wolves again beat rival Poly on April 18! 

VOLLEYBALL 

The Wolves beat rival Poly in the April 12 match (3-0) and repeated the win against Chadwick on April 13.  

TENNIS 

The varsity tennis team lost to San Marino on April 14 but defeated rival Poly on April 15 (13-5). 

BASEBALL 

The baseball team had a 0-2 loss to Monrovia on April 9. They shut out Rio Hondo on April 13, 10-0, and lost by one run to the same opponent on April 15 (8-9). On April 16, the Wolves fell to Beckman 2-6. 

SWIMMING

The girls and boys varsity swim teams will compete this week at the Prep League Prelims to qualify for the League Finals. Cheer on the Wolves this Thursday, April 21 at Poly!
