July 22 Communication
Dear Community Member,
On Monday, July 20, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced a delay in the fall sports season in all 10 sections, including the Southern Section. Sports will be played in two seasons, fall and spring, instead of three, with section playoffs for most fall sports ending on March 13, 2021 (girls volleyball and boys water polo) or March 20, 2021 (girls and boys cross country). Football section playoffs are scheduled to end on April 10, 2021. For more information on the CIF announcement, visit this link.
Flintridge Prep remains committed to providing all our student-athletes with a comprehensive, competitive athletic experience, resuming in-person practices as soon as we can do so safely and meaningfully. Until team practices resume, we are developing conditioning protocols with our coaches to support the continued engagement of our athletes, and we will be in communication regarding future developments.
Students may only play one sport per season. Therefore, to adequately prepare for the condensed sports seasons, the Athletics Department is coordinating with the Prep League to gauge the preferences of our athletes who may have to choose between sports. By indicating a preference in our survey, athletes are in no way obligated to choose this sport later. This survey is simply being used to help us with facilities planning.
If you do not intend to play sports this school year, please disregard this survey. If you are receiving this survey on behalf of your child or children, please work with them to complete the survey. Please complete one survey for each student-athlete in your home.
For reference, the new Fall season will offer the following sports beginning November 30 through March 20:
- Boys and Girls Cross Country
- 8-Man Football
- Boys and Girls Volleyball
- Boys and Girls Water Polo
The new Spring season will offer the following sports, running from March 1 through June 15:
- Boys and Girls Basketball
- Boys and Girls Soccer
- Boys and Girls Swimming/Diving
- Boys and Girls Tennis
- Boys and Girls Track & Field
These dates are approximate and depend on playoffs. We are aware of the overlap in seasons and will work with athletes as needed so that they can compete across both seasons if they wish.
Sean Beattie will be meeting with other Athletic Directors on Monday, July 27. We appreciate your prompt response by Monday morning so that he can advocate for our athletes.
Thank you for your support and Go Wolves!
