Girls Softball 2020

With increased numbers, girls softball is planning to make a comeback. After facing a difficult season with seven players last year, the team is 16-players strong and aims to go far in league and CIF. This week, the girls kicked off March with two back-to-back victories. On Tuesday, they defeated Chadwick 9-3 out on the Prep Athletic Field. The next day, they took out Providence with a cool 21-4 win. Today, they’re facing Alverno at an away game, where they’ll try and up their wins to three.

Despite a rocky start to the preseason, boys volleyball is back on their feet. On Tuesday, the team routed St. Francis in a home match 3-2 and then delivered a 3-1 defeat to Maranatha on Wednesday. The team is looking to solidify their trip to CIF, after winning the Prep League title last season and making it to CIF semifinals. After a few key players graduated last May, the boys are establishing their current leaders in libero Kristofer Chang '20, outside hitter Cole Barnard '20, setter Jake Woo '22 and outside hitter Sean Mealey '22.

Baseball has been busy running through the tournament circuit. After suffering a tough loss to Kaiser last week, the team regrouped for their game against Rio Hondo Prep on Thursday. It was a wipeout. Baseball defeated Rio Hondo 11-1 on Rio Hondo’s turf.

Boys tennis has spent their preseason dominating the court. Last week against Buckley saw solid wins from singles player Andrew Megerdichian '21, who defeated the top Buckley player 6-3, and doubles team Loran Baxter Mercado '22 and Chris Fung '23, who successfully handed the match over to Prep. This week, they defeated South Pasadena 11-7, but faltered against Temple City. The team endured their first loss 13-5 but will plan to make another strong showing against South Pasadena on Monday.
