This Saturday will be one for the books, with three teams competing in CIF playoffs across Los Angeles.
The boys and girls cross country teams will trek out to Riverside for CIF Finals, where they’ll take on rival teams in their respective divisions. The boys team, currently ranked #4 in CIF, made an excellent showing at Prelims last weekend after clinching the Prep League title. The girls team is ranked #11 in CIF.
With an exciting quarterfinal game last week, where Prep defeated Cate 35-25, the team is moving onto the CIF semifinals on Saturday. They’ll take on number one seed Windward at a 1 pm kickoff, hoping to avenge their Homecoming loss and move forward to the CIF Finals.
Winter sports kicked off their preseason this week, with girls water polo winning their first game against Flintridge Sacred Heart 11-4. Though the team struggled during the first half, they were able to turn it around and score eight goals in the second half, with leading scores from Natalie Kaplanyan ’21 and Lauren Bennett ’20. Boys basketball opened the preseason against Glendale but fell 55-70. The girls will be playing this weekend at the Burbank Water Polo Tournament.
As we look ahead to the girls basketball season, the team is primed for a historic year. After last year’s team advanced to the state regional semifinal, the girls are ready to take on any challenge this season. Look out for Kaitlyn Chen ’20, who averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game last year, as well as Sofia Gonzalez ’21 and Ashlyn Zhang ’22.
