Homecoming Sports Roundup

There’s so much Rebel success to cover this week that we just couldn’t fit it all in one post.

Friday, October 28 was Prep’s first home field Homecoming in 21 years, and it did not disappoint. The day was filled with fun, community and some amazing displays of athleticism.

The day’s games began during the morning Pep Rally, with some fierce (and hilarious) competition in the form of a life-size Hungry Hungry Hippos tournament. With eight teams total -- one for each grade level and two for faculty – the game came to life thanks to the clever repurposing of rolling boards, laundry baskets, balls of assorted sizes and hockey goals. After a particularly close battle between seniors and faculty, the seniors inched out on top.

First on the field was the juniors vs. seniors girls Powder Puff game. Both teams showed strong collaboration, having had only a handful of practices together prior to the matchup. They also had support from the sidelines, where the boys football team helped encourage and call plays for the two teams. There was even a boys’ cheerleading section, complete with pompoms, cheers and a half-time dance routine. In the end, the junior girls upset the seniors with the first junior win in several years.

Following the girls’ competition, JV football endured a tough match against Faith Baptist High School. They couldn’t sustain the momentum to overtake their opponents, and unfortunately, the game ended in a lopsided final tally. The cheer squad and audience gave their support throughout, however, and the boys showed strong effort and Rebel resilience.

Varsity rallied hard after JV’s setback in a nail-biting fight against rival Chadwick. Prep started the game off confidently, but Chadwick came back and held a firm lead into the second half. It was looking precarious as the third quarter began, but Rebel defense stopped Chadwick from advancing while offense produced back-to-back touchdowns with only a few minutes left, solidifying Prep’s lead and ending the game in a 39-36 win. The crowd rushed the field to celebrate, capping off an incredible Homecoming day.

Thank you to all those who participated and who showed up to support our community and our athletes. You helped make the day an unforgettable one. Stay tuned for our regularly scheduled Friday Sports Roundup for updates on all things athletics!
