Commencement Weekend

There are three major events during commencement weekend.

Baccalaureate Service

The Baccalaureate service provides a time for quiet reflection preparatory to the next day's more celebratory event. This service features performances by student musicians, readings from the diverse wisdom traditions and faiths that make up the Prep family, and an address by a special invited guest. This year’s Baccalaureate Speaker is Michael Gitlin, father of Wyatt ’16, Sophie ’18, and Max ’20.

The Baccalaureate service will be held Saturday, May 26, 5:00 PM, in Norris Auditorium. Doors open at 4:30 PM. Because seating in Norris Auditorium is limited, we ask that each graduate invite no more than two guests to the Baccalaureate service. Young children may find the quiet nature of the Baccalaureate service less than enjoyable, but adults who are caring for young children can watch the service via closed-circuit television.

Celebration Dinner

The Baccalaureate service is followed immediately by an alfresco buffet dinner, held on Ahmanson Plaza (located just outside the auditorium, next to the library). Both meat and vegetarian options are readily available.

Although we ask that graduates invite no more than two guests to the Baccalaureate service, you may invite additional family members to join you for the buffet dinner. Please email by Friday, May 18 with the name of the graduate and the number of guests, including the graduate, who will attend the dinner.

Commencement will be held Sunday, May 27, 7:00 pm, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Doors open for guests at 6:30 pm. This joyous event celebrates the achievement of our senior class and features the presentation of awards, speeches by the Benton Trophy winner, the Founders Trophy winner and the student-elected class speaker before the presentation of diplomas.

The Pasadena Civic Auditorium provides significantly more seating than Norris Auditorium, so graduates are welcome to invite as many guests as they like to the Commencement ceremony.

A reception is held in the plaza outside the auditorium immediately after the ceremony.
