The newly enclosed atrium outside Norris Auditorium has had a tremendous impact on campus life. Students are loving the new space, particularly on cold and rainy days. If you haven’t seen the new space, we hope you’ll visit campus soon.
Flintridge Prep staff and faculty have bid farewell to the old Alumni House. The former home of Headmaster Edor Anderson and his family during the 1970s and 1980s, the residence was converted into offices in the 1990s. The Alumni House classroom hosted scores of Peter Bachmann’s Great Books students.
The demolition of the home marks the end of an era and the beginning a new period of innovation for Prep. The Bachmann Collaboration Building is expected to be open by the beginning of the 2020 school year and will house programs in STEAM, Global Studies and Leadership.
Rising to the (Alumni) Challenge
The Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to name the Collaboration Building in honor of Peter Bachmann, who will retire from his role as Headmaster in June 2020. Three trustee families have joined together to help ensure that Peter’s vision is realized by his retirement date. They have earmarked half a million dollars each as a match for parents, parents of alumni and alumni, in order to rally our community around the Collaboration Building.
Jeff Crawford ’86 and his wife Orsi are joined by Rich Webster and Kim Kenne and Mike and Kris Anne Gitlin in this challenge. If you have not donated to the campaign yet, today is a great day to make a gift. Help us achieve 50% of our goal by June 30. Visit our Campaign for Prep Challenge page for more details.
Phonathon volunteers may call you soon. Respond to their call with a generous gift to honor Peter Bachmann’s legacy. Visit our campaign fundraising page or text BCB2020 to 41444.
Athletics Hall of Fame
Our school history is filled with legendary athletes and coaches.
As alumni, you can probably think of a coach or student-athlete who had a profound impact on your team and the school community from your time at Prep. The Athletics Department is developing a Hall of Fame and will be seeking nominations over the next several months. Consider your nominees. We’ll be reaching out with details soon!
Celebrating a Legacy
Speaking of sports legends, last month we celebrated Alex Rivera, who, during his 41-year career at Prep was a coach, PE teacher, Athletic Director and Director of Athletic Initiatives. Dozens of people from across the decades came out to show their love for their favorite coach.
Reunion Day Is a Blast from the Past
Alumni from all decades returned to campus in April for tours and celebrations. They boogied down to the hits of their high school eras, toasting each other’s successes, families and careers since high school. It was an amazing day that also honored Alex Rivera – check out photos from the spring reunion and Rivera’s celebration at the link below!
Bachmann Circle Celebrates Alumni Commitment to Prep
Prep had the honor of celebrating its most dedicated and consistent alumni donors at the second Bachmann Circle Celebration, which took place during Reunion weekend. The guests represented every generation in the school’s history and had one thing in common—they were all alumni who turned their Flintridge Prep pride into a habit of giving back annually for at least 10 years.
Mark Lim ’97 Reflects on Business and Leadership
Mark Lim ’97, founder of Lollaland with his wife, Hanna ’98, visited campus to offer insights on life as an entrepreneur. Lim shared how Shark Tank changed the trajectory of their company and spoke about the importance of staying true to your values. The full story can be found in the upcoming issue of PrepTalk, which will be out in August.
