I love that Flintridge Prep provides the opportunity to build relationships and connections with any/all members of the community. I have had amazing mentors at Flintridge Prep who helped me become the person I am today. Anytime I'm able to have a similar impact on someone and see the joy on their face is what makes me proud.
What advice do you have for someone applying to Flintridge Prep?
Be yourself. I know its a cliché and you probably hear it a lot, but it's true. There's not one specific mold or person that you need to be at Flintridge Prep. Describe an interest or passion you discovered and continue to dig deep into here at Flintridge Prep.
I joined water polo in 9th grade. It was a sport I had never played before, so I was a little nervous, and I also hadn’t really ever played any sports before! It quickly became one of my favorite activities. Some of my teammates have become some of my closest friends, and my favorite part about the team community has been getting to know people in different grades. I’ve had a lot of really good role models who I’ve admired and looked up to and still talk to even after they’ve graduated. My experience playing water polo at Flintridge Prep led to my passion for athletics, especially on Athletics Council on Leadership (ACL).
What impact do you hope to have at Flintridge Prep? How do you see your role in helping to create community here?
I've had amazing role models at Flintridge Prep who always made me feel valued and like I belong whether in the pool or anywhere on campus. They always made sure to include me, which was so kind. I hope to be able to have a similar impact, and I see my roles as captain of the girls water polo team and as a leader in ACL as vital ways that I can help shape the Flintridge Prep community and make others feel the same sense of belonging that was extended to me.
Describe an experience at Flintridge Prep that shifted your perspective on something.
I had never really thought of myself as a writer and so frankly when I found myself in Mr. Roy's 10th Grade American Literature course, I was absolutely terrified (Mr. Roy has a reputation for being a tough grader). Even after only the first day of class, I knew that this was going to be one of my favorite classes at Flintridge Prep. By the end of the year, I had deepened my skills of literary analysis and writing and now I look forward to reading and analyzing novels at a high level. I think this is a testament to the care and thoughtfulness that our teachers put into curating their courses and creating engaging opportunities to encourage learning and promote a love for learning.
Where do you go or what do you do when it's time to recharge?
I love sitting outside, or in the Bachmann Collaboration Building where there's always plenty of natural light.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment from my Flintridge Prep education was the first time I got to use Spanish outside the classroom. I walked into my Spanish 1 class not knowing anything other than "Hola, ¿cómo estás?," and throughout my three years in the Spanish language program, I've become fluent. Getting to speak in Spanish with native speakers around the LA area was a tangible indication that all my studying in the classroom had paid off. Spanish class has allowed me to communicate with a whole new group of people and has sparked a real love for the rich culture I'm surrounded by in California.
Describe an interest or passion you discovered and continue to dig into here at Flintridge Prep?
Before I was even a student at Flintridge Prep, I took a Zoom summer school class in 2020 where I met Coach Harbers and was introduced to the Flintridge Prep Mock Trial team. I joined the team as a paralegal in middle school, I was a JV attorney in freshman year, and I got to be a varsity attorney my sophomore year. I've gotten to know our country's legal system, met some of the nicest, most intelligent people at Flintridge Prep, and improved my public speaking. This past year, Ellie Sohn and I were the founding members of the Moot Court team, and our inaugural season was more successful, rewarding, and fun than I could've imagined. Getting to dig deep into legal analysis at a Supreme Court level was one of the highlights of my sophomore year, and I'm so grateful to both the Mock Trial and Moot Court teams for such wonderful experiences.

I really appreciate the enthusiasm of the teachers at Flintridge Prep and their dedication to student learning. They have a genuine passion for knowledge and intellectual growth, and they bring positive and encouraging energy to the classroom. They excel at creating an exciting and engaging learning environment.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment so far was creating a digital drawing and commentary video for my final project in my 10th-grade English class. We were tasked with making a video detailing something the teacher did not previously know about us or something that represents a part of our identity. Since I was a little girl, I have been very passionate about drawing, animation, and film. I was excited to showcase those passions in a high-level academic environment like Flintridge Prep. I loved combining my creative visions with an analytical perspective.
What advice do you have for a new student at Flintridge Prep?
There are many great opportunities to get involved. My brother was keen on playing tennis and various sports, while I'm passionate about pursuing the arts, such as drawing and writing. Embracing a diverse learning environment can be highly beneficial, and if you have a unique interest, the faculty is very supportive and enthusiastic about finding ways to nurture that talent within a school setting.
Describe an interest or passion you discovered and continue to dig deep into here at Flintridge Prep.
While I have dedicated a significant amount of time to honing my skills in visual arts, I found the English curriculum to be an excellent platform for expressing my creative perspective and analytical skills. My experience in writing at Flintridge Prep has taught me the endless possibilities of creativity in analyzing and exploring different views and interpretations of literary works and art. As I move forward, I aim to continue refining my analytical writing skills and expanding my appreciation for various books and literary works. I aspire to pursue a career involving writing someday, and the experiences I’ve had at Flintridge Prep have been invaluable in guiding me toward that goal.

As I move forward, I aim to inspire younger students to embrace their unique interests. Being passionate about film, animation, and various art forms, I aspire to create opportunities for students to explore these interests within the Flintridge Prep community, such as through the school newspaper and other platforms. My goal is to enable students to pursue unconventional artistic interests at Flintridge Prep.
Describe an experience at Flintridge Prep that shifted your perspective on something.
During my junior year, I attended the Global Studies trip to the UK, where we learned about the impacts of colonialism as well as the rich artistic culture of the country. As someone who is very artistically driven, I not only appreciated learning about the history of many famous artists and works that originate in the UK, but I also gained a lot of insight into different perspectives regarding the history of the UK as well as its intellectual atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed tours such as the one where we learned about the origins of Sherlock Holmes and how integral the series was to the expanding culture of newspapers and media in the UK, and how many passionate citizens were influenced by the work. I also appreciated going on a female-centered Jack the Ripper tour, as I believe it was very important to humanize and tell the stories of these unique women, rather than characterizing them as statistics in another person's story.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
The other day, a visual arts teacher came up to me and told me many students from his class selected my photo series (displayed in the Visual Arts Show) as their favorite pieces. He said my work was inspiring to many of his students that they wrote their in class assignments on it. This was one of my proudest moments because it reminded me of how I used to look up to upper classmen as examples. I would admire their coolness but also their projects (artworks, Identity projects, etc). This moment showed me that I have become that role model for other students, being someone they can look up to.
Describe an interest or passion you discovered and continue to dig deep into here at Flintridge Prep?
In 9th grade I joined photography class out of curiosity. I never had much experience with photography, let alone a dark room! That year, I realized how much I loved photography. You can express your thoughts, emotions, and feelings with a camera by simply changing colors, lights, or poses?!?! That was so cool to me. Through 10th and 11th grade, I developed my skills even more by becoming a master at Photoshop and making my projects more complex and elaborate. Now, I'm an award winning photographer (even being recognized by the Getty)! At Flintridge Prep, there are so many opportunities to try something new, so why not try something you are unfamiliar with! My curiosity has led me to becoming an award winning and very passionate photographer, something a middle school-me would never had saw coming.
What impact do you hope to have at Flintridge prep? How do you see your role in helping to create community here?
My goal at Flintridge Prep has been to bring the community closer together. Last year, I did this by having bi-weekly Morning Meeting videos. As a middle schooler, I used to look forward to Thursdays just because of fun videos that I saw during Morning Meeting. I brought the tradition back as it is a point of discussion and laughter for many students.

Just be your authentic self! Truly you will thrive by finding the people that love you for YOU and the teachers want to get to know YOU. If you're scared about finding your place here, just know that it will find you. Between our clubs, sports, and other activities, there is something for everyone.

What impact do you hope to have at Flintridge Prep? How do you see your role in helping to create community here?
I hope to make Flintridge Prep a place that is filled with positive energy and warmth. Although I can't control much, I know that I can control how I act and how I present myself. By smiling and being positive, I can encourage others to have a positive attitude. This is important to foster a school climate that is open minded and encouraging. It's one thing to say that we are a warm and kind environment and another to actually be it. I want to create a community where no matter the task at hand, the community is uplifting and that embodies the feelings we experience at Book Day, the first day of school.
Describe an experience at Flintridge Prep that shifted your perspective on something.
The Spring Dance Concerts have shifted my perspective. At the end of each show, the seniors all show up for each other to support and cheer on the people on stage. It truly shows that even at the end of the road, everyone cares so much for each other and wants them to succeed. Also, seeing the emotions of everyone realizing that’s the last Dance Concert showed me how much they love the experience and how important it is to embrace the moment because there is time is not unlimited here.
Where do you go or what do you do when it's time to recharge?
At Flintridge Prep, I love the library and at home of course my bed! When it's time to recharge I turn on my favorite music or watch “Grey's Anatomy.” I may also go on a run or workout.

Describe an experience at Flintridge Prep that shifted your perspective on something.
I’m not a very outdoorsy person, and never really have been, but going on nature walks in PE has been very relaxing and calming. I find that being outside in nature helps with easing my nerves and stress. At first I didn’t like it because of my allergies, but I learned to look past that and see the beauty that nature holds.
Where do you go or what do you do when it's time to recharge?
I like to dance and listen to music when I need to recharge. A song can quickly pick me up out of stressful times and brighten my mood. I’m also a dancer, so expressing my emotions that way also helps me recharge.
Anything else you want to share about yourself or your experience at Flintridge Prep?
I am a rather introverted person, so Flintridge Prep was very scary initially since it was much larger than my other school. After the first week, I found it really easy to blend into the community and make friends, which isn’t very common for me. I think that coming to Flintridge Prep was one of the best decisions I could have made for going into high school!

At Flintridge Prep I learned how much I enjoy drawing and drama. Before I came here, I'd never had a proper drama or visual arts class but after 7th grade, I discovered how much I felt at peace when making up an improv scene or starting a new drawing. This year, I hope to dig deeper into these subjects by taking them as my primary art classes.

I used to hate poetry, but after taking 7th Grade English I realized that it is simply brilliant. I used to not understand it, but now I appreciate lots of figurative language and the talent it requires to create a nice effect and put a person into a different place just by using words. Analyzing poetry in class gave me a whole new perspective on writing, and I am so happy that I have that way of looking at things.

I have found that I enjoy working with admissions, and specifically at our events for Black and Latino applicants. I remember being a nervous middle schooler applying to Flintridge Prep and wondering if I would fit in. I relate to the applicants I meet each year, so I enjoy listening to all of their concerns and aim to ease their minds and help them realize that they deserve to take up space and get a good education despite being a minority on campus.
