Visual Arts

Beyond the Classroom

Offering mentored learning experiences in drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, and video, our visual arts faculty of practicing, exhibiting artists guide students through an inventive curriculum designed to foster breakthrough moments while emphasizing concept development, visualization, and artisanship.

The visual arts program is an oasis where creative expression is nurtured. Through a wide range of studio courses and extracurricular opportunities, students at all levels are invited to explore their ideas, develop their skills, and contribute their unique perspectives to a shared creative community.

Art in Practice

Visual arts students learn by doing and by engaging with the broader art world. Through visiting artists, museum field trips, and public exhibitions, students discover new ideas, refine their skills, and share their work with purpose and confidence.

Visiting artists are an essential part of the visual arts program, offering students direct engagement with contemporary creative practice. Through artist talks, discussions, and workshops, students gain insight into the artistic process, professional pathways, and current conversations in the art world. Some recent guest artists include Amir H. Fallah and Elana Mann, who shared their work and experiences, helping students connect classroom learning to real-world artistic practice.

Field Trips

Our visual arts field trips offer students a chance to visit museums to slow down, observe closely, and engage with ideas beyond the classroom. By studying artworks, artifacts, and curatorial choices in person, they gather inspiration, ask deeper questions, and make connections that shape their own creative work.

Art Shows & Gallery

Twice each year, the Visual Arts Department hosts the Art Show, which showcases student work from all levels of study. Student exhibitions are a vital extension of the visual arts curriculum and the school’s creative life, providing opportunities for students to share their work publicly and reflect on their creative process. Exhibitions encourage students to see their work as part of a larger dialogue, building confidence, ownership, and a deeper understanding of visual communication. With a dedicated gallery space in the library, student artwork can be seen year-round.

Visual Arts Extracurricular Opportunities

Students can extend their creative interests beyond the classroom through a range of arts-focused extracurricular clubs that encourage exploration, collaboration, and creative expression.
